Description/Blazon
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Quarterly, Buff and Azure (Light Blue) between four gunstones crosswise, a sword point to base Sable and a key ward to base saltirewise Or, an escutcheon of the third fimbriated and charged with an eagle's head erased Or with eye garnished of the third. Attached below the shield a Black scroll inscribed "PROVIDE TO PROTECT" in Gold.

Symbolism
Buff and light blue are the colors traditionally associated with the Quartermaster Corps reflecting the original unit designation. Gold is emblematic of excellence and high achievement. The four black shapes, located on the four major geographical directions, represent the points of a compass and the unit's ability to provide security wherever needed. The eagle, symbol of our nation, symbolizes constant vigilance, authority, and total preparedness. The shield represents defense and protection, which gives emphasis to the unit's motto. The key is a symbol of providing security and protection. The sword reflects vigilance, strength, and justice.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 867th Quartermaster Battalion on 19 March 2002. It was redesignated for the 402d Military Police Battalion effective 1 September 2008, with the symbolism revised.
